文暖 woke up feeling a sharp pain in her head, confused and disoriented. She had only drunk a couple of beers the night before; surely, she shouldn't be experiencing a hangover like this. Rubbing her aching head, she realized she was in a very plain, worn-down room, her mind struggling to piece together the events leading to her current state. A bandage wrapped around her head hinted that she must have hurt herself in some way.
As she sat up, her gaze fell upon her hands – thin and frail, starkly different from her usual delicate and fair skin. Panic surged within her as she began to question what kind of cruel joke was being played on her. Just as her anxiety reached its peak, she was jolted by a scream that pierced through the walls from an adjacent room.
“Why are we still paying for her doctor and medicine? She’s just a bad omen, a worthless girl we bought for money! Why should we spend anything on her? Zhou Ziyu, are you trying to drive me crazy?” a woman's voice shrieked.
"Second aunt, Anuan is family, not what you say she is," a calm voice replied. The soothing cadence of that voice felt like a balm to her frazzled nerves. Yet the name "Anuan," along with the mentioned Zhou Ziyu, sent a jolt of recognition through her. It was a name she had recently encountered—the pivotal secondary male character from an unfinished novel she had been reading!
Could it be? Had she truly traversed into the pages of the story? The thought sent shockwaves through her mind. If this was indeed the world of that unfinished novel, the possibilities were dizzying. Zhou Ziyu, destined to face countless trials and emerge victorious, was someone she was about to meet in the flesh.
However, as her mind flicked through the narrative, dread began to settle within her. She was not a principal character but rather a tragic footnote—Anuan, Zhou Ziyu's fated child bride who tragically passed away early on. Donning the mantle of Anuan, she recalled the girl’s harrowing past: kidnapped at a tender age and repeatedly trying to escape her captors, only to be sold multiple times due to her striking beauty. After a series of misfortunes, Anuan was eventually taken in by a family looking to exploit her.
But what truly haunted her was a daydream of how Anuan met her end. In a cruel twist of fate during a stormy night, a journey to bring Zhou Ziyu's family news culminated in tragedy when the bridge they were crossing collapsed, resulting in the death of Zhou Ziyu’s parents. Anuan was subsequently blamed for being a “bad omen.” The events spiraled out of control, leading her to live in torment until she was abused by her caretakers.
As these thoughts unfurled like dark clouds above her, warmth radiated from the realization that Zhou Ziyu was still alive. Would she have the power to rewrite their fates? To alter the course of the narrative that shaped Anuan's sorrowful existence?
Without a moment's pause, determination ignited in her chest. If she was fated to embody Anuan, she could either succumb to the girl's pitiful life or grasp the narrative and steer it towards a better outcome. With little time to lose, she had to assert her presence in this world.
But a sudden, daunting truth loomed over her: she wasn't merely fighting for her life. The weight of Zhou Ziyu's future rested on her frail shoulders. He was deceptively intelligent, having already become a child prodigy. The world had grand plans for him, but she sensed a creeping turmoil surrounding them—a grave danger that could very well sever their fates irreparably.
Her heart raced at the thought of what lay ahead. Soon, her resolve would be tested as she confronted the deeply held notions of family, loyalty, and destiny. It wouldn't be easy to turn back the tide of prejudices that held Anuan captive for most of her short life, especially when the world seemed determined to dismiss her worthiness.
As tensions escalated, she found herself caught in a web of perilous decisions that would either cement her position in Zhou Ziyu's life or push them apart. Unbeknownst to her, time was dwindling fast, and every moment she spent trying to shield herself from the looming danger would trigger a new ripple in the story unfolding around her.
How would she manipulate the narrative to prevent the tragedies predicted in the book? Would she find allies in Zhou Ziyu's family or forge unexpected bonds beyond their sheltered existence? The answers lay just at the edges of her new reality, waiting for her to take the first step toward her newfound destiny.
With a deep breath, she felt the ember of hope reignite within her. The path ahead was fraught with challenges, but perhaps, just perhaps, she could turn the tides of fate itself. Would she rise against the circumstances that tried to bind her? It was a question begging for exploration as she stood on the precipice of change. The next chapter of her life beckoned her forward, tantalizingly close yet impossibly far, and she was ready to plunge headfirst into the unknown.
